Former Journalist’s Final Wish Gives Six People a Second Chance at Life Through Organ Donation at Aster RV Hospital

Posted on August 31, 2026

In an inspiring act of compassion and humanity, the family of former journalist Ramakanth Reddy fulfilled his final wish by donating his organs at Aster RV Hospital, Bengaluru, enabling six people to receive the gift of life.

Ramakanth Reddy sustained critical injuries in a road traffic accident in Anantapur after two motorcycles collided head-on. Following the accident, he was rushed to Aster RV Hospital in Bengaluru for advanced trauma care. Despite the relentless efforts of the multidisciplinary critical care team over five days, he succumbed to his injuries.

In the midst of their grief, Mr. Reddy's family made the courageous decision to honour his long-held wish of organ donation. Following the declaration of brain death and after obtaining the family's informed consent, the hospital's transplant coordination team facilitated the organ donation process in accordance with established medical and legal protocols.

His heart, liver, both kidneys and corneas were successfully retrieved and allocated through the state's organ-sharing network, giving six patients a renewed chance at life and restoring vision to two individuals.

The seamless coordination between the critical care specialists, transplant surgeons, anaesthesiologists, nurses, transplant coordinators and the state organ allocation authorities ensured that every donated organ reached a deserving recipient within the shortest possible time.

Speaking about the case,Dr. GaganBrar,Lead Consultant – Critical Care Medicine, Aster RV Hospital, Bangalore

“Mr. Ramakanth Reddy fought bravely for five days despite suffering severe traumatic injuries. Our entire team worked tirelessly to save his life using every available critical care intervention. While we were deeply saddened that we could not change the outcome, his family's decision to honour his wish for organ donation transformed an unimaginable loss into hope for six other families. Such selfless decisions remind us that even in the face of tragedy, one individual can leave behind an extraordinary legacy of life.”

The hospital expressed its heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Reddy's family for demonstrating remarkable courage and generosity during one of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Organ donation remains one of the greatest gifts an individual can offer. A single deceased donor has the potential to save multiple lives through the donation of vital organs while also restoring sight and improving the quality of life for many others through tissue donation.

Aster RV Hospital continues to encourage greater awareness about deceased organ donation and urges people to discuss their wishes with their families, as informed family consent remains a crucial step in making the gift of life possible.
