upGrad’s ‘CodeEd’ Hackathon Set to Fuel India’s Next Generation of EduTech Innovation

Posted on August 12, 2025

upGrad, one of Asia’s largest integrated skilling and lifelong learning majors today announced the launch of ‘CodeEd’ – a national AI-in-Education Hackathon, inviting coders, technologists, and pre-seed micropreneurs to build AI-powered ideas that can solve real challenges in India’s education system – and help make quality education a true ‘har-ghar’ (every household) reality.

CodeEd will be a 24-hour, on-ground product sprint hosted in Mumbai in early September this year, where participants will work in teams to develop breakthrough solutions across access, affordability, and innovation, with a sharp focus on tangible, scalable outcomes. To ensure wide access and industry relevance, upGrad is actively collaborating with ecosystem partners to engage participants from across colleges, universities, and corporates. The initiative also echoes the spirit of International Youth Day 2025, which champions local youth action for the SDGs and beyond.

“India is at the epicentre of a global talent shift – but unlocking that opportunity needs the right enablers. Our nation, today, needs more entrepreneurs and micro entrepreneurs who are building right products with audience-first and are set to lead tech and talent wave for the next generation jobs. We’ve seen rapid transformation in the last 10 years and built a robust skilling ecosystem – it’s now time we naturally progress into incubating and support product innovation to catalyse the larger the Viksit Bharat ambition. India’s bet now stands real on product that are built frugal but with purpose,” said Ronnie Screwvala, Co-founder & Chairperson, upGrad.

As India enters its 79th year of independence, the initiative serves as a timely marker in the nation-building journey – echoing the spirit of building for the next generation and aligning with International Youth Day’s call for local action toward global goals.

A distinguished jury of leaders from education, technology, and AI will then evaluate the innovations developed during the sprint.

Registrations are open for the next two weeks, after which shortlisted, teams will compete for an INR 1 lakh cash prize, a pre-placement offer at upGrad, and entry into the upGrad AI Incubator to bring their product idea to life. Following the screening and selection process, the final problem statement will be unveiled a few days before the event.

More details on the venue and subsequent stages will be shared via upGrad’s official social media channels.
