In a united effort to spread awareness about cancer and emphasise the importance of early detection, students of Orchids The International School, Delhi-NCR conducted the ‘Walk of Hope’ in collaboration with the Indian Cancer Society (ICS)-Delhi, on World Cancer Day. The ‘Walk of Hope’ featured an impactful ‘Nukkad Natak’ (street play) performed by the students, followed by an informative workshop by the ICS Team for the school staff to make them aware and engage as a community in the fight against cancer. The cancer awareness drive commenced with a free Health check-up camp on 2nd February at Orchids The International School, Sector 41, Gurugram campus to encourage early detection and prevention of cancer.
Speaking on World Cancer Day, Deya Banerjee, Principal, Orchids The International School, Sector 41 campus, said, “We believe that awareness is the first step in the fight against cancer. By collaborating with the Indian Cancer Society, we aspire to inspire our students and the community to take proactive measures towards a healthier future.
Moreover, the impact of this awareness campaign extends beyond the classroom, which helps in fostering a more informed and conscious society.”
Renuka Prasad, Joint Secretary, Indian Cancer Society-Delhi, said, “Cancer awareness is crucial in reducing the global impact of the disease. Medical check-up camps and awareness initiatives like these empower individuals with correct knowledge and encourage early detection, ultimately saving lives.”
The ‘Walk of Hope’ brought together students, teachers, parents, and community members, marching with a message of resilience, hope, and awareness. The walk commenced from Orchids The International School, Sector 41 campus, Gurugram, and culminated at Sector 41 Market (Soddies), aiming to encourage discussions on cancer prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment accessibility. To spread awareness among the people & society, students raised slogans like “Choose one: tobacco or life”, “Tobacco chewing a dangerous zone; do it and get reduced to bone”..
Complementing this Walk of Hope, a short ‘Nukkad Natak’ was performed by students of Orchids The International School and the volunteers of Indian Cancer Society (ICS), showcasing real-life stories and essential information on cancer prevention. Through this engaging and thought-provoking street play, the students educated the public and broke stigmas associated with the disease.
The successful culmination of this initiative reinforced the importance of awareness and proactive health measures. Every step taken, every story shared, and every lesson learnt in this event contributed to a larger mission—eradicating the fear of cancer through education and collective action.
