The Kochi City Finale of the Bharat Nav-Nirmaan Challenge, NICMAR’s flagship nationwide student innovation initiative, concluded successfully in Kochi, bringing together undergraduate engineering and architecture students to present practical and forward-thinking solutions addressing real-world infrastructure challenges.
The city-round finale witnessed participation from more than 25 teams representing leading institutions from across the region. Student teams showcased projects aimed at addressing key challenges in India’s built environment and broader infrastructure ecosystem. The competition forms part of a structured, multi-stage national platform designed to encourage young technical talent to engage with India’s fast-evolving Construction, Real Estate, Infrastructure and Project (CRIP) sectors.
Projects were evaluated by an esteemed industry jury comprising Prof. Vishnu Namboodiri, Head (HSEM), NICMAR University of Construction Studies Hyderabad; Mr. Ajith A., General Manager (Procurement and Corporate Planning), Kochi Metro Rail Limited (A Joint Venture company of Government of India & Government of Kerala), Ernakulam; and Mr. Anson T, Director, Mercadia Projects, Adam Square, Ankamaly. The jury assessed entries on parameters including innovation, feasibility, scalability, and relevance to contemporary infrastructure needs, highlighting the strong blend of technical insight and practical application demonstrated by the participants.
Congratulating the winners of the Kochi City Round and emphasizing the importance of such initiatives, Dr Tapash Kumar Ganguli, Director-General, NICMAR, said, “Participating students in this round demonstrated remarkable creativity and technical depth in tackling real-world infrastructure challenges. The solutions presented at the Kochi City Finale reflect the strong potential of young engineering minds to contribute meaningfully to India’s built environment, which lies at the core of the Bharat Nav-Nirmaan Challenge.”
The winners of the Kochi City Round are:
1st – Mangalam College of Engineering, Ettumanoor
2nd – Carmel College of Engineering & Technology, Alappuzha
3rd – Eranad Knowledge Technical Campus, Malappuram
These winning teams will now advance to the regional round of the challenge, where they will compete with top teams from other cities across India.
Supported by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the Bharat Nav-Nirmaan Challenge aims to encourage undergraduate students to develop solutions for real-world infrastructure challenges. Over time, the initiative has evolved into one of India’s largest student-led innovation movements focused on the built environment, with prizes worth Rs 30 lakh.
