~Mumbai’s premier arts institution brings the magic of live performance to the capital — under open skies and free for all~
The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai, India’s premier cultural institution, is set to make its Delhi debut with NCPA@thePark, a unique open-air celebration of culture and community. The event, scheduled on the November 2nd, invites audiences to experience the joy of live performance free of charge at Travancore Palace.
For over five decades, the NCPA has been a coveted space for both audiences and performers. Two years ago, the 55-year-old institution — South Asia’s first multi-venue, multi-genre cultural centre — decided to step beyond its iconic Mumbai campus in the spirit of accessibility and inclusion. Following the pandemic, when audiences were eager to reconnect with the arts, the first edition of NCPA@thePark was inaugurated in March 2022, in association with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), celebrating the return of live performances to physical spaces. Since then, NCPA@thePark has evolved into a flagship community outreach initiative, returning each year with new editions across cities, making the arts open and inviting for all.
The Delhi edition opens with members of the Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI), the country's first and only professional orchestra, taking audiences on a western classical musical journey through the eras — from the intricate Baroque brilliance of Vivaldi to the passion of the Romantic age, culminating in a vibrant tribute to Frank Sinatra with two of his most iconic songs.
As the evening unfolds, Delhi’s own The Revisit Project, a much-loved jazz-funk ensemble, takes centre stage with Greatest Composers of Hindi Cinema — an energetic homage to R.D. Burman, A.R. Rahman, and Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, where rhythm meets Bollywood nostalgia.
Speaking about the much-awaited debut in Delhi, Khushroo N. Suntook, Chairman, NCPA, said: “At the NCPA, we believe that art should be accessible to everyone, not confined to concert halls alone. NCPA@thePark reflects our vision of taking performances to the public — creating shared experiences that bring communities together through the power of live art. The NCPA is delighted to take yet another promising edition of the initiative to one of the country’s culturally flourishing cities – Delhi, to spread the joy of live performances beyond Mumbai. We look forward to welcoming residents of the city to join us with their friends and family in this celebration as we continue to promote the arts across the country.”
Whether with family, friends, or neighbours, NCPA@thePark promises an evening of unforgettable music and engaging cultural experience.
