Škoda Auto India leads the largest convoy to Umling La

  • Record set on the last day that Umling La was the world's highest motorable road
  • A convoy of 28 Škodas with 60 fans congregate to create a record
  • Recognised by both India and the Asia Book of Records

In a celebration of passion, endurance, and the spirit of exploration, Fans of Škoda created history by setting a record at Umling La. On the date of setting the record, Umling La, at 19,024 ft., was the highest motorable road in the world. A convoy of 28 Škodas – including the Kylaq, Kodiaq, Kushaq, Slavia, and even the iconic Yeti, ascended the extreme altitude as the largest convoy of cars, officially earning recognition from both the India Book of Records and the Asia Book of Records.

Commenting on this remarkable feat, Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Škoda Auto India, said, “At Škoda Auto India, we have been growing aggressively and crossing new milestones for our brand across every front. We have achieved record sales, we are constantly expanding our dealership network, and are delivering extraordinary experiences to our customers. The passionate fandom of Škoda owners acts as a powerful force multiplier for the brand – their pride, word-of-mouth advocacy, and community spirit turn ownership into a movement, inspiring trust and aspiration among new customers. Their authentic stories and enthusiasm make Škoda more than just a car brand, they make it a belonging. This landmark at Umling La is a testament to this spirit and the engineering excellence of our cars. Together, we continue to push boundaries, on the road and in the market.”

The Record

The convoy covered over 3,000 km of extreme terrain, extreme weather conditions, river crossings, steep inclines, temperatures ranging from -5 to 25°C, and thin air at 19,024 ft. to etch its name in history as the largest convoy of cars to reach Umling La. With participants spanning generations and professions, the record showcased Škoda’s engineering and community spirit to enable journeys beyond the ordinary.

The Convoy

The fleet of cars consisted of 60 fans from across India. Marathoners, doctors, parents, children, elders, and first-time adventurers all came together to drive, share experiences, explore, and conquer the road less travelled. Some families travelled from cities like Sangli, Mumbai, Gorakhpur, New Delhi, and the rest of India. The convoy began from Manali, before entering Ladakh, and crossing Leh, Khardung La, Pangong Tso, Hanle, and even Thang, the last village of India before ascending the heights of Umling La at 19,024 ft. with temperatures touching -1°C at 19,024 ft.

Setting Records

This milestone adds to Škoda Auto India’s strong surge in 2025. In the first half of the year, the company achieved its highest-ever half-yearly sales of 36,194 units, a 134% growth over H1 2024. This was followed by a stellar Q3 performance, where the brand registered 17,161 cars sold, a 110% growth over the same period last year. While achieving cumulative sales of 53,355 units between January and September 2025, Škoda also expanded its network to over 315 customer touchpoints across 179 cities, highlighting its commitment to accessibility and customer centricity. In its 25th year in India, Škoda Auto continues to drive progress, powered by relevance, differentiation, and trust.
