The Olympic champion uses GVK Diagnostics & Specialty Clinic’s anniversary to push for preventive healthcare as a non-negotiable part of peak performance
In a fireside chat with Keshav Reddy and Veena Reddy of the GVK family, the discussion moved from light-hearted moments to serious takeaways. Asked whether resisting ice cream was tougher than winning an Olympic medal, Sindhu laughed before turning reflective: “Winning medals is tough, but saying no to ice cream can feel tougher. At the end of the day, it’s discipline, recovery, and preventive care that keep me in the game. Consistency is what matters most, and prevention of injuries and illness keeps you there for longer.”
Drawing from her own experience, Sindhu explained why recovery and early action are as important as training itself. “We respect fitness tests in sport, so why fear basic health tests in life? It’s not about how hard you train, it’s about knowing when to push and when to rest. Strength training builds resilience, especially for women, and prevention is a big part of that. Whether you’re competing at the highest level or simply staying active, regular check-ups and timely screenings can make all the difference in catching issues early and staying at your best.”
For Hyderabad’s fast-paced lifestyle, her message was especially relevant. “Regular health screening should be a habit, not a crisis response,” Sindhu said, urging people to integrate preventive care into everyday routines rather than waiting for illness to strike. “Whether you’re chasing medals, deadlines, or just staying fit, don’t wait for a red flag. Make it a habit.”
She also spoke about the challenge women often face: putting their health last. “Let’s bat for independence from guesswork in health, less Dr. Google, more check-ups. We can’t afford to wait for something to go wrong before acting. Prevention gives you the freedom to focus on what matters without being held back,” Sindhu said.
Adding his perspective, Keshav Reddy said: “Across homes and workplaces, women often put themselves last. ‘Freedom of Good Health’ means making space for your own needs, rest, movement, wholesome food, and regular preventive checks. These aren’t luxuries; they’re essentials. Small, steady habits protect you far more than last-minute fixes ever can.”
The event also featured an interactive discussion with leading medical experts, including renowned diabetologist Dr. N.G. Sastry, who highlighted how early detection and preventive care can transform long-term health outcomes.
Marking its first year, GVK Diagnostics & Speciality Clinics, Jubilee Hills, has emerged as a Comprehensive solution for patient needs, offering OPD consultations across 17 specialities alongside comprehensive diagnostics, day care surgeries and preventive care.
The conversation closed with a reminder that readiness tests aren’t just for athletes. For Sindhu, the principle is universal: look after your body before it demands repair, and it will carry you further in every part of life.
